Link to criticised picture: Finishing line, Copenhagen Marathon, 2007
Erik Refner a former winner of the World Press Photo of the year 2002, won with this picture the World Press Photo of the year 2007 in the category of Sports Features.
The exhaustion of a marathon runner just after the finish comes out beautifully in this picture. All elements work together: the facial expression, the plastic, the spraying of water, the colors, the use of flash and the composition. The man delivered a fantastic achievement, but doesn’t seem to realise himself yet. His tiredness has taken over. The photographers appreciation of the achievement is incapsuled in the picture.
Flash photography is on my list of techniques to expirement with. I am also looking for a type of photography to practise when I’m not in nature. Sports photography is an option.
